Preparing for a New School Year

With the new term just around the corner, here are our tips to get help you prepare for a great start to the new academic year.

SET YOUR BED-TIMES

Most of us like a little lie-in during the holidays, and, knowing that you won’t have an alarm waking you early the next day, chances are you have been staying up later than usual in the evenings. If that’s the case, try going to bed and getting up a little earlier every night over the last week of your holiday, so you are back to your “school-night” timings by the last day. This will make it so much easier to get to sleep the night before the first day!

BUY YOUR BOOKS

If you need any new text books or class readers for the next year, either you or your parents will have been notified. Find out what you need, and ask your parents to purchase your books in good time. While it’s best to leave the studying until your teachers give instructions, reading the first couple of pages of your new books will help you to feel prepared for what is coming, and get you excited about new topics!

ARRANGE YOUR EQUIPMENT

You can enjoy your holiday right up to the last moment if you know you have already prepared all that you need for your first day back. A few days in advance, pack your pencil case and buy anything new that you need while you still have plenty of time. You can pack your school bag the day before school starts, or even earlier – just try not to leave it until the morning of your first day!

TRY YOUR UNIFORM ON

If you are changing schools, you will probably have bought all of your new kit already. If not, make sure you have everything you need, just in case you misplaced something in the frenzy of end-of-term fun! Try it all on together and order anything that needs replacing in good time for the first day back. Just seeing yourself in your uniform will help you feel a little bit like you’re back at school, and can help to prepare your mind for the new term.

PLAN SOME FUN

Once term begins, it’s easy to get caught up in all the studying, ECAs and everything else that comes with term-time life. Why not plan something really enjoyable for your first weekend of the academic year? If you’re feeling end-of-the-holiday blues, this is a great way to give yourself something to look forward to as a reward for completing your first week. Plan something really fantastic for Friday night or Saturday with friends or family (or both) and if ever you find things getting a little confusing or challenging back at school, you can boost your spirits by looking forward to your special treat.
